oscar recap.
The Oscars were pretty good this year, with much more entertainment than usual. Here is our personal highlight reel from the night!
-The fashion. While we wouldn't say this was a strong year for the dresses on the red carpet, it's always one of our favorite parts and below are a few who show-stopped...
-The acceptance speeches. Christopher Plummer's supporting Actor win for "Beginners" began with the 82 year old saying, "You're only 2 years older than me, darling. Where have you been all my life?". He continued in his classy, funny manner thanking the academy, his "long suffering wife", and co-star Ewan McGregor, whom he said he'd share it with if he had any decency, "But I don't", he joked.
Meryl Streep won lead Actress for her role as Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady". She started her speech by joking that she felt audiences were upset by her win, quickly adding, "but whatever". She then thanked her husband and makeup artist, but I enjoyed the end best:
"I really want to thank all my colleagues, all my friends. I look out here and I see my life before my eyes, my old friends, my new friends and really this is such a great honor but the thing that counts the most with me is the friendships and the love and the sheer joy we have shared making movies together. My friends, thank you, all of you, departed and here for this inexplicably wonderful career. Thank you
so much. Thank you."

-The video actor tributes. It was nice to get a personal account from our favorite actors to get their take on favorite films and love for the movies.
-The Cirque de Soleil performance. They're just an unbelievable, live performance.
-The host. Billy not only made us laugh, but he cracked himself up throughout the show from the opening video monologue where he dropped in to spoof the best films of 2011 and bits like guessing what the actor's were thinking.
-The presenters. While some of them were totally awkward and not funny at all (ahem Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow), some were pretty entertaining. Emma Stone's giddy, starstruck facade, and Chris Rock showing how easy and prosperous it is to be an actor were both pretty hilarious.

amore mio sorelle.
"There's a special kind of freedom sisters enjoy. Freedom to share innermost thoughts, to ask a favor, to show their true feelings.
The freedom to simply be themselves."

family dinner.
“Growing up, more than anything, I got to know my mother and father and my sister - and they got to know me - at the dinner table.”
-Jake Gyllenhaal says while helping a group of students plant a garden.
As it should be. I love this. Jake meet Pao, Pao meet Jake :))

icon.
Today would mark the 85th Birthday of Marilyn Monroe. We celebrate her today with some of our favorite quotes by the singer, actress, model, and American icon...
“We should all start to live before we get too old.
Fear is stupid. So are regrets.”
“Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to
be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.”
"If I'd observed all the rules, I'd never have got anywhere."
"If you can make a girl laugh, you can make her do anything."
"I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together."
"This life is what you make it. No matter what, you're going to mess up sometimes, it's a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you're going to mess it up. Girls will be your friends - they'll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, some go. The ones that stay with you through everything - they're your true best friends. Don't let go of them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world. As for lovers, well, they'll come and go too. And babe, I hate to say it, most of them - actually pretty much all of them are going to break your heart, but you can't give up because if you give up, you'll never find your soul mate. You'll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything. Just because you fail once, doesn't mean you're gonna fail at everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always believe in yourself, because if you don't, then who will, sweetie? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life's a beautiful thing and there's so much to smile about."
Thanks Marilyn! You know what's up!

the man.
"Live like you're already dead, man. Have a good time.
Let is all come ripping right through you."
-Jeff Bridges so brilliantly says in Esquire mag. In the article he explains his decision to take a break from acting in order to make music. Love this guy!

no ruffled feathers here.
It's a great day to try your most off-the-wall scheme. You're capable of anything. Have no fear, all your carefully laid plans will proceed just fine today. The only way your feathers could possibly get ruffled is if you let them, so don't! Nothing is certain until it happens, so unless it does, put your energy into enjoying life.
true dat.

love letter.
To love is good, too: love being difficult. For one human being to love another: that is perhaps the most difficult of all our tasks, the ultimate, the last test and proof, the work for which all other work is but preparation. For this reason young people, who are beginners in everything, cannot yet know love: they have to learn it. With their whole being, with all their forces, gathered close about their lonely, timid, upward-beating heart, they must learn to love.
But learning-time is always a long, secluded time, and so loving, for a long while ahead and far on into life, is--solitude, intensified and deepened loneness for him who loves.
Love is at first not anything that means merging, giving over, and uniting with another (for what would a union be of something unclarified and unfinished, still subordinate--?), it is a high inducement to the individual to ripen, to become something in himself for another's sake, it is a great exacting claim upon him, something that chooses him out and calls him to vast things.
-Rainer Maria Rilke

living the questions.
Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.
-Rainer Maria Rilke
