cultivate change.

Went to a really cool event this week-Billabong's Design for Humanity. It was held on the Paramount lot and was a mix of fashion, art, and music-with all proceeds going to the Cultivate Foundation. Got to see the Lumineers, a sweet fashion show, and our fave-The Joy Formidable. So much fun. Will def be returning next year!

yoga stops traffick.

118 yogi's gathered strong at Runyon Canyon last Saturday for the worldwide event, Yoga Stops Traffick. The LA class was led by our favorite teacher, Daniel, from Black Market Yoga. It certainly was a magically, lovely day to come together to raise awareness for this important cause.

oscar recap.

The Oscars were pretty good this year, with much more entertainment than usual. Here is our personal highlight reel from the night!

-The fashion. While we wouldn't say this was a strong year for the dresses on the red carpet, it's always one of our favorite parts and below are a few who show-stopped...

Rooney Mara in Givenchy
Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford

-The video actor tributes. It was nice to get a personal account from our favorite actors to get their take on favorite films and love for the movies.

-The Cirque de Soleil performance. They're just an unbelievable, live performance.

-The host. Billy not only made us laugh, but he cracked himself up throughout the show from the  opening video monologue where he dropped in to spoof the best films of 2011 and bits like guessing what the actor's were thinking.

-The presenters. While some of them were totally awkward and not funny at all (ahem Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow), some were pretty entertaining. Emma Stone's giddy, starstruck facade, and Chris Rock showing how easy and prosperous it is to be an actor were both pretty hilarious.

-The acceptance speeches. Christopher Plummer's supporting Actor win for "Beginners" began with the 82 year old saying, "You're only 2 years older than me, darling. Where have you been all my life?". He continued in his classy, funny manner thanking the academy, his "long suffering wife", and co-star Ewan McGregor, whom he said he'd share it with if he had any decency, "But I don't", he joked.
Meryl Streep won lead Actress for her role as Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady". She started her speech by joking that she felt audiences were upset by her win, quickly adding, "but whatever". She then thanked her husband and makeup artist, but I enjoyed the end best:

"I really want to thank all my colleagues, all my friends. I look out here and I see my life before my eyes, my old friends, my new friends and really this is such a great honor but the thing that counts the most with me is the friendships and the love and the sheer joy we have shared making movies together. My friends, thank you, all of you, departed and here for this inexplicably wonderful career. Thank you
so much. Thank you."

footwear art.

Wow! Check these out!
All I want for Christmas is a pair of pumps from designer, Kobi Levi
" In my artistic footwear design the shoe is my canvas. The trigger to create a new piece comes when an idea, a concept and/or an image comes to mind. The combination of the image and footwear creates a new hybrid and the design/concept comes to life. The piece is a wearable sculpture. It is "alive" with/out the foot/body. Most of the inspirations are out of the "shoe-world", and give the footwear an extreme transformation. The result is usually humoristic with a unique point of view about footwear. Another aspect of the creation is the realization. All the pieces are hand-made in my studio. The challenging technical development is the key to bring the design to life in the best way."
Here are a couple of my favorites! Happy Shopping!

come on and run.

Gaga just debuted her latest music video masterpiece for Marry the Night.  This self-directed gem of our favorite song off the album is like a combination of Girl, Interrupted, Black Swan, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Flashdance. It's based on her struggles and ambitions as an aritst.
It's long (almost 14 minutes), but pretty amazing! Check it out.

sibling rivalry.

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen were crowned Vogue's Best Dressed Siblings of 2011 beating out the likes of many well-dressed sisters including Beyonce and Solange Knowles, the Fanning girls, and even the Middleton sisters. While this was a close one, we do believe our favorite twins deserve this highly-esteemed honor with their chic, vintage-inspired, always on the cutting edge of fashion style. Congrats gf's! The cover photo could not be more perfect either!
